[heise / 20.03.2013] Das im estnischen Tallinn angesiedelte Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence der NATO hat ein Handbuch über den Cyberkrieg veröffentlicht. Das NATO-Handbuch mit 95 Regeln für den Cyberkrieg wurde in dreijähriger Arbeit von 20 IT-Experten verschiedener Streitkräfte, dem Internationalen Roten Kreuz und dem Cyber-Kommando der US-Armee verfasst. Es besitzt keine internationale Gültigkeit, nennt aber erstmals Regeln, an die sich Cyberkrieger halten sollten.

[ccdcoe] The Tallinn Manual on the International Law Applicable to Cyber Warfare, written at the invitation of the Centre by an independent ‘International Group of Experts’, is the result of a three-year effort to examine how extant international law norms apply to this ‘new’ form of warfare. The Tallinn Manual pays particular attention to the jus ad bellum, the international law governing the resort to force by States as an instrument of their national policy, and the jus in bello, the international law regulating the conduct of armed conflict (also labelled the law of war, the law of armed conflict, or international humanitarian law). Related bodies of international law, such as the law of State responsibility and the law of the sea, are dealt within the context of these topics.

The Tallinn Manual is not an official document, but instead an expression of opinions of a group of independent experts acting solely in their personal capacity.

Knapp 100 Honeypots liefern die Daten in Echtzeit, ein Ticker meldet, welche Ziele sie ins Visier nehmen. Statistiken zeigen die aktuell häufigsten Angriffsarten und in welchen Staaten die aktivsten Angriffsserver stehen. Allerdings bedeutet deren Standort nicht zwangsläufig, dass auch die Angreifer aus diesem Land stammen.

Which VPN Service Providers Really Take Anonymity Seriously?

[torrentfreak / 2011] Last month it became apparent that not all VPN providers live up to their marketing after an alleged member of Lulzsec was tracked down after using a supposedly anonymous service from HideMyAss. We wanted to know which VPN providers take privacy extremely seriously so we asked many of the leading providers two very straightforward questions.

Their responses will be of interest to anyone concerned with anonymity issues.

Over the past two weeks TorrentFreak contacted some of the leading, most-advertised, and most talked about VPN providers in the file-sharing and anonymity space. Rather than trying to decipher what their often-confusing marketing lingo really means, we asked them two direct questions instead:

1. Do you keep ANY logs which would allow you or a 3rd party to match an IP address and a time stamp to a user of your service? If so, exactly what information do you hold?
2. Under what jurisdictions does your company operate and under what exact circumstances will you share the information you hold with a 3rd party?

This article does not attempt to consider the actual quality of service offered by any listed provider, nor does it consider whether any service is good value for money. All we are interested in is this: Do they live up to claims that they provide a 100% anonymous service? So here we go, VPN providers in the file-sharing space first.

Anonymous-Ermittlungen: Skype gab private Daten einfach an niederländische Sicherheitsfirma weiter

[Netzpolitik] Die niederländische Webseite nu.nl berichtet, dass Skype persönliche Daten von potentiellen Anonymous-Aktivisten an private Ermittler weitergegeben hätte. Eine private Sicherheitsfirma habe im Auftrag von Paypal Ermittlungen durchgeführt, wer bei den DDos-Attacken auf Paypal & Co 2010 teilgenommen habe. Dabei wurden einzelne Anonymous-Aktivisten aus den NIederlanden in Chats ermittelt und dann bei Skype nach weiteren Informationen angefragt. Ohne Gerichtsbeschluß seien von Skype private Informationen wie Nutzername, realer Name, Mailadresse und private Anschrift an die privaten Ermittler weitergegeben wurden. Das alles kam durch Polizeiakten über den Fall heraus.

Antisec - Hacker werfen FBI Massenüberwachung von Smartphones vor / FBI: AntiSec-Hack ist eine Lüge

[FR] Das Hacker-Kollektiv Antisec wirft der amerikanischen Ermittlungsbehörde FBI vor, im großen Maßstab Daten von Mobilfunknutzern gesammelt zu haben. Um den Vorwurf zu beweisen, veröffentlichte die Gruppe im Internet eine Datei. Sie enthält angeblich die Seriennummern von einer Million Geräte mit dem Apple-Betriebssystem iOS sowie einige persönliche Angaben zu ihren Besitzern. Das FBI wollte auf dpa-Anfrage zu dem Vorfall keine Stellung nehmen.

Das Hackerkollektiv konterte laut AllThingsD, dass fehlende Beweise kein Beleg dafür seien, dass der Hack nie stattgefunden hätte. Man hat weitere Veröffentlichungen über den mutmaßlichen Twitter-Account der Gruppierung angedroht: "Bevor ihr zu viel dementiert: Vergesst nicht, wir sitzen noch auf drei Terabyte an zusätzlichen Daten. Wir fangen gerade erst an."

Stratfor emails reveal secret, widespread TrapWire surveillance system

[Wikileaks-Forum] TrapWire: See Something, Say Something...To The CIA? New Stratfor emails released by WikiLeaks indicate that TrapWire, a defense contractor owned and operated by ex-CIA operatives, sits at the center of American intelligence. Everything from incidents on military base to calls to NYC's "See Something, Say Something" are routed through TrapWire.

UPDATE: WikiLeaks offline as of 1:50am EST, presumably as a result of ongoing DDOS attacks

TrapWire, run by ex-CIA operatives, is a software program that collects and analyzes surveillance video footage from locations around the world to prevent terrorist attacks. Security footage from the White House or a New York subway station is uploaded to the program, which searches for "suspicious activity" and looks for patterns. The hope, according to Stratfor Vice President of Intelligence Fred Burton, is that, "a suspect conducting surveillance of the NYC subway can also be spotted byTrapWire conducting similar activity at the DC subway." There are at least 500 TrapWire-connected surveillance cameras in the New York subway system, according to this blog post by Mr. Burton.

At the same time, however, WikiLeaks was relentlessly assaulted by a barrage of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, crippling the whistleblower site and its mirrors, significantly cutting short the number of people who would otherwise have unfettered access to the emails.

On Wednesday, an administrator for the WikiLeaks Twitter account wrote that the site suspected that the motivation for the attacks could be that particularly sensitive Stratfor emails were about to be exposed. A hacker group called AntiLeaks soon after took credit for the assaults on WikiLeaks and mirrors of their content, equating the offensive as a protest against editor Julian Assange, “the head of a new breed of terrorist.

[Guardian] Computer hackers have managed to breach some of the top secret systems within the Ministry of Defence, the military's head of cyber-security has revealed.

Government computer systems come under daily attack, but though Shaw would not say how or by whom, this is the first admission that the MoD's own systems have been breached. Shaw, a veteran of the Falklands and Iraq wars, also said the MoD had to be prepared to embrace unconventional and "wacky" ideas if the military wanted to catch up with, and then stay ahead of, rivals in the cybersphere. Getting "kids on the street" to help the military was vital, he said.

[Gulli] Die am vergangenen Dienstag durch WikiLeaks veröffentlichten E-Mails des "Private Intelligence"-Unternehmens Stratfor geben tiefe - und für WikiLeaks-Unterstützer äußerst beunruhigende - Einblicke in das Verhältnis von Stratfor zu WikiLeaks und dessen Gründer Julian Assange. Außerdem lässt sich erahnen, wie hinter den Kulissen gegen das Projekt intrigiert wird. Teil 4: 1. bis 6. Dezember 2010.

Bemerkenswert ist aber auch Noonans nächster, als eher nebensächliche Anmerkung formulierter Satz: "Das ist auch der Grund, warum sie ihn in irgendeinem Land wegen irgendwelcher anderer Anklagepunkte schnappen werden." Zu diesem Zeitpunkt gab Interpol gerade einen internationalen Haftbefehl gegen den WikiLeaks-Gründer heraus. Wenige Tage später wurde Assange in Großbritannien wegen der von den Meisten bereits für erledigt gehaltenen Vergewaltigungs-Vorwürfe aus Schweden festgenommen. Äußerungen wie die Noonans lassen Assanges Behauptungen, es handle sich bei diesen Vorwürfen - oder zumindest der Art ihrer Verfolgung durch die Behörden - um ein politisch motiviertes Komplott, weitaus plausibler erscheinen, als dies wohl sonst der Fall wäre.
