Assailed Mexican State Fires City's Police

[WallStreetJournal] MEXICO CITY—Mexico's Gulf state of Veracruz, besieged by warring drug cartels and weary of trying to root out drug-related corruption among local police, took an unusual step this week: It fired the entire police force of its largest city, the port of Veracruz.
Veracruz Gov. Javier Duarte officially fired all 900 municipal police and 100 administrative workers in the port city on Wednesday, handing over the city's security to Mexico's Navy, the governor's office said.
